Right Motive For Development is a Non-Governmental Organizations  dedicated to changing the lives of people positively often engage in a variety of activities and initiatives to address social issues and improve the well-being of individuals and communities

Our Story

Right Motive For Development Foundation (RMFDF) is a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2015 and registered in 2017 with the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission with registration number CAC/IT/99571 under the CAMA LFN 1990c.

The organization was established with the vision and mission of working towards improving the welfare and advocating for an inclusive society where persons with disabilities can maximize their potentials in order to enable them maintain a self-sustained, productive and profitable living without stigmatization and psychosocial subjugation.

Right Motive For Development Foundation is kindly seeking to partner with you in line with your objective and thematic areas of interest stated in your strategic objective which aligned with our organizational objectives and core areas of strength which is to ensure that:

  • Adults and Children with Intellectual Disability, can have uninterrupted access to gender equality, inclusive basic education, social and skills development in a safe environment.

  • They do not die from stigmatization, marginalization and infectious diseases, but have equitable access to proper health and nutritional services that can improve their social     status.

  • To advocate and sensitize the public against social discrimination, against persons with intellectual disabilities and passionately provide support, training and improve long time food security for the special needs.

  • Also strives to protect and uphold the fundamental human rights, care giving support, for persons with intellectual disability, including the rights to food, shelter, education, health care and security.

We write to partner with your esteem organization in creating awareness , capacity building and training workshops and seminars' on the possible cause of the spread of HIV/ADIS in communities where we have carried out assessments and identified the potential gap lingering on lack of proper information's, sensitizations, awareness, given to these group of people living with disabilities, we strive to create if our proposal will be favourably granted a robust inclusive awareness and interactions with the language and manner they would understand hence is our field of professionalism and expertise, and also Colet useful information's , data's and feedbacks that will help to assist the fight and spread of the virus among  persons with disability, in rural communities in Kaduna State.

Our social interventions programmes focus on inclusive educational center, social skills acquisition, education/economic empowerment and girl-child/women advocacy. In collaboration with women and other governmental ministries and agencies, we have provided support to rejects, indigents and defenseless victims in the communities. To expand our outreaches and extend our awareness /advocacy, education, rehabilitation and trainings, the board of trustee requests that we seek for a way of collaborating together with you to help and support us to create impacts on these individuals and be aware of the outcome of unprotected sex of any kind, and against abuse and molestation, and also achieve our passionate aims and wider objectives.

OBJECTIVES

To empower the marginalized, vulnerable and persons with disability in the society, in order to enable them lead and maintain a self-sustained, productive and profitable living without stigmatization and psychosocial subjugation.

ORGANIZATIONAL/OPERATIONAL GOALS

  1. To establish community centres and welfare havens for the provision of support, welfare and development services to the vulnerable, marginalized and persons with disability in society, especially those with intellectual disabilities.

  2. To institute modalities for interim care and support for the vulnerable, marginalized and displaced persons in society, especially those with special needs.

  3. To establish a learning center for inclusive skills development and capacity building of persons with disability in society.

  4. To institute programs and activities that empower the vulnerable, marginalized and persons with disability for economic self-reliance, productivity and improved quality of life.

  5. To contribute to the elimination of all forms of violence, abuse, harassment and discriminations against persons with disability, and the vulnerable in society, especially those with special needs.

  6. To advocate, create robust awareness for the re-evaluation of cultural traditions and ethics to preserve safe behaviour as well as challenge/ disrupt/ eliminate unsafe and harmful behaviours and the outcomes.

PROGRAMMES

  1. Special Needs Support / Re-Integration Programme
    This programme provides the needful and inclusive engagements and orientations for special needs and disability persons for meaningful interaction with the world around them. The activities under this programme include speech therapy for persons affected with down’s syndrome, sign language for hearing impaired persons and their caregivers, physiotherapy/ambulatory practice for physically challenged persons, etiquette and orientation on social interaction for all special needs persons, etc.
    The programme focuses on bridging the interaction gap between the special needs persons and the society around them for meaningful engagement as well as disambiguated and sustainable communication. we practice inclusivity.

  2. Disability Persons Welfare Programme
    This focuses on provisions of basic needs for disability persons while they are still dependent and vulnerable. The welfare provisions are planned according to their special circumstances and can include feeding, housing, clothing, special bodily extensions such as prosthesis, hearing aids, wheel chairs, etc.

  3. Skill Empowerment Programme (SEP)
    The SEP strives to provide capacity building for the beneficiaries on skills that can be deployed for economic means, and are chosen to factor in the special needs or circumstances of the beneficiary and other peculiar socio-cultural peculiarities and the physical as well as economic terrain within which they expect to live at such time as they may feel confident enough to venture into self-reliance. The SEP is also provided for vulnerable women and young women who have become mothers at early ages in life, who have no meaningful livelihoods

  4. Girl-Child ICT-STEM Programme
    This programme specifically targets teenagers Adults and young women with prospects for an interest in career pursuit in Science and Technology. The programme was conceived in recognition of the enormous gender disparity gap prevalent in the career fields of science, and the use of basic Technological tools and gadgets, learning how to operate computers and basic application knowledge, which has significantly contributed to the inequality in access to opportunities in the referenced career fields.
    The programme therefore strives to inspire interest among the target beneficiaries in the field of science, and seek support for them to provide them optimal opportunities for pursuing careers in the fields of Science and Technology.

  5. Health and Environmental Safety Awareness Campaign
    In recognition of the fundamental importance of health and the critical role of awareness in preventing the spread of diseases, this programme seeks to promote awareness of basic Water and Sanitary Hygiene practices, sexual and reproductive health care, human right laws and guidelines, and accessibility audit for adequate health care provisions for the beneficiaries and the host communities in order to enhance healthy living and promote environmental consciousness in choices and decision for a sustainable environment.

  6. SRHR Services Programme
    This has targeted the challenge of sexual and gender-based violence, especially the exploitation of minors which has led to the well documented cases of VVF, unwanted teenage pregnancies, teenage motherhood, unsafe abortions among young women and adolescents, and discarding of new-borns among several other resulting complications.
    Under this programme, RMFDF conducts sensitizations and consciousness building on the rights to bodily autonomy as well as options for avoiding exploitations and seeking redress when they do occur. This programme also provides shelter, counselling, referrals, healthcare and legal support as and when necessary.

CAPACITY STATEMENT AND IMPACT PORTFOLIO AT A GLANCE

The RMFDF has had operational presence and implemented projects in 4 states of Nigeria including Ibadan (2014-2016), Benue (2017-2018), Bayelsa (2020-2021) and Kaduna (2019-2022) states.

The RMFDF has also partnered with several philanthropic and donor bodies in the implementation of intervention programmes and projects including information and awareness creations, capacity building, economic empowerment, welfare and skill acquisition programmes. Our activities have targeted children and adults with special needs, widows, orphans, and IDPs. Our interventions have reached and benefitted over 200 widows, almost 300 hearing and speech delay persons, 25 autistic persons, over 35 persons with Down syndrome, 18 Celera palsy, over 20 visually impaired persons etc, so far for persons with intellectual disability.

Our areas of technical strength for special needs and persons with intellectual disability, include speech and language therapy, ADHD therapy, learning and writing training, cerebral palsy therapy, as well as social skills and emotional development therapy. We also carry out gender advocacy and gender equity programmes for women and girl child including empowerment programmes, and skills acquisition training. We maintain an ICT center in Kaduna for training of our beneficiaries to enable them interact effectively with the outside world, and see to science and technological tools as a way of life and can be embraced.

The RMFDF currently maintains and runs a shelter in Kaduna for adults and children with intellectual disability, which caters to accommodation and therapy provisions for special needs persons who are receiving therapy, as well as welfare provisions for adolescents and young women who are suffering abuse of some form and require temporary safety for redress of the exploitative situation.
